An outstanding Pauillac from the team at Pichon-Longueville Baron, the 2021 Château Pibran checks in as 63% Cabernet Sauvignon and 37% Merlot brought up in a mix of new and used barrels. It has an incredibly floral, elegant profile in its cassis and redcurrant-driven aromatics and is medium-bodied on the palate, with beautiful tannins. Balanced, pure, and just a classy wine, it deserves 4-5 years of bottle age and will drink nicely over the following 15.

The 2021 Pibran has an open-knit bouquet that has veered toward red fruit during its élevage, accented by hints of wild mint and fennel, well-defined if just missing the horsepower of recent, more benevolent vintages. The palate is medium-bodied with a sapid entry, a little granular in style with pencil lead notes toward the finish. This is a bit rough around the edges…but I kinda like that.

The 2021 Pibran turned out beautifully. Bright and punchy, the 2021 offers terrific energy from start to finish. Red cherry fruit, chalk, mint, white pepper and blood orange lend tons of lift to this gorgeous, mid-weight Pauillac. Pibran is seriously delicious.

The 2021 Pibran opens in the glass with notes of sweet cassis, red berries and pencil shavings, followed by a medium-bodied, deep and structured palate that's pure and flavorful, with lively acids and chalky tannins that reflect the blend's unusually high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon. It's one 2021 that will reward a little patience.
