Tasting notes
Because of intelligent winemaking, low yields, and strict selection, Avril has turned out two of the finest wines of the 1992 and 1993 vintages. One of the most concentrated wines I tasted from the vintage, the 1992 Chateauneuf du Pape exhibits a dark ruby/purple color, a big, spicy, black-cherry and cedary-scented nose, superb richness, a chewy, unctuous texture, and moderate tannin in the long finish. Cellar it for 2-4 years and drink it over the subsequent 15 years. It should merit an outstanding rating in several years. Importer: Alain Junguenet, Wines of France, Mountainside, NJ; Tel.
