2020 Volnay Clos de la Barre

Tasting notes
Ripe, generous and velvety with lively acidity, this is an impressive Volnay that retains the light-footedness of this appellation, in spite of the extreme vintage. Stacks of fine tannins and this side of the wine builds at the highly structured finish. Excellent freshness. From organically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but best from 2024.

The 2020 Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Barre Monopole (Maison Louis Jadot) opens in the glass with notes of sweet red berries, orange rind, peonies, cinnamon and cloves. Medium to full-bodied, it's more introverted and tightly wound than the seductive Les Mitans.
Medium to deep purple, beautifully ripe, so much going on, plump lush raspberry but never losing its thread, more character in this warmer vintage rather than drying it. This is a very good Clos de la Barre, as good as I can remember.
The 2020 Volnay Clos de la Barre ler Cru has a well-defined and quite precise bouquet, perhaps more so compared to the Mitans and the Santenots. The palate is medium-bodied with silky tannins, a fine bead of acidity, vibrant and fresh with a slightly candied finish. There is something very seductive and more-ish about this Volnay excellent.
About the producer

Louis Jadot is arguably the most consistent négociant house in Burgundy. It has managed to straddle both the entry-level and fine wine market, while retaining respect in both.
