Tasting notes
The 2011 Long Now is dark, rich and imposing, with fabulous depth allied to a sense of underlying tension that balances some of the wine's inherent opulence. Black cherries, smoke, tobacco, incense and licorice meld together in an explosive Barbera/Nebbiolo blend endowed with magnificent richness and power. Tasted next to the 2012, the 2011 is quite a bit riper and also presents more oak influence.

The 2011 Long Now is shaping up to be a jewel. Dark, mysterious and brooding, the 2011 flows across the palate with layers of dark, deeply spiced fruit. In 2011, the Barbera seems to play the leading role in this Barbera/Nebbiolo blend, at least today. The 2011 needs time to fully absorb its 100% new oak, but is gorgeous all the same. Blackberry jam, licorice and cloves are some of the notes that linger on the finish. I can't wait to taste the 2011 again once the Nebbiolo awakens from its present dormant state.
