Tasting notes
The 2011 ILR Reserve Semillon is exotic and toasty, with notes of sandalwood and brine, green apple skins, cardamom pods, dried herbs and lashings of citrus of all kinds. This is a lovely wine; it offers all of the above, and yet it remains weightless and fresh above all that. Texturally, it walks with a light tread on the palate. It is slightly darker in color than the 2009 poured beside it, but not accompanied by any signs of slowing down. This is very good and has years to go. 11% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

Limpid yellow-gold. Powerful, mineral-tinged aromas of lemon curd, dried pear, honey, beeswax and chamomile show fine detail and a hint of fennel. Chewy and densely packed, offering lush orchard and citrus fruit flavors that spread out steadily through the back half. Finishes impressively long and precise, with pear nectar and honey notes lingering.
Light white and tangy. Some evolution though it's still in the first flush of youth. (JR)
