The capsule of the 2014 Roda is red, reflecting what the fruit profile in the wine should be like (Roda I wears a black capsule). 2014 was a challenging year, and the final blend is Tempranillo with 7% Graciano and 3% Garnacha. It fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured for 14 months in French oak barrels, 50% new and 50% second use. It feels a lot more developed than the 2015 and also less defined and precise, with some grainy tannins. 81,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2016.

(malo in large French oak barrels; aged for 14 months in French oak barriques, 40% of them new) Youthful violet color. A highly perfumed bouquet evokes oak-spiced dark berries, cola, vanilla and incense, along with a smoky mineral topnote. Sappy, plush and seamless in the mouth, offering concentrated blackberry, boysenberry, mocha and spicecake flavors that spread out steadily on the back half. The impressively long, spice-tinged finish displays pliant tannins, excellent clarity and a suave touch of candied flowers.

This is tight and very focused with dried flowers, dark fruits and spices. Medium to full body, linear tannins and a long finish. Shows frankness and polish. Drink or hold.

The 2014 Roda (90% Tempranillo, 7% Graciano, 3% Garnacha) from an Atlantic year has aged gracefully. Aromas of herbs, soft cherry, menthol, cola and gentle wood accompany a dry, medium-bodied palate with mild tannins and a juicy, flavorful finish. After eleven years, it remains expressive and poised for further evolution.
