Tasting notes
The 2000 Barolo barely qualifies for the category – the nose is a bit too herbaceous, the oak rather felt, and the finish somewhat lean. Drink: 2005-2012. A Marc de Grazia Selection, various American importers, including Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel. (516) 677-9300, Vin Divino, Chicago, IL; tel. Medium red. Mellow, woodsy aromas of redcurrant, marzipan and dried flowers. Soft, plummy, sweet and approachable; nicely plump if not especially complex. Just a tad heavy, with some alcohol showing. The initially sweet tannins showed a dry edge with aeration.
Mid ruby. Smudgy, low key nose. Some really sweet fruit on the front palate. Powerful spread of elements on the mid palate. Pzazzz. Very charming though a bit hot on the finish. (JR)
