Tasting notes
Winemaker Gavin Chanin is re-releasing some back vintages he has been holding in the cellar, including this 2012 Pinot Noir Bien Nacido Vineyard. Pale garnet, it opens with struck match character and earthy tones of underbrush, mushrooms and tobacco, plus a core of spicy dark fruit. The medium-bodied palate is chalky and fresh with fully mature flavors and a long, earthy finish. It hasn't matured as gracefully as the 2012 Chardonnay from the Sanford & Benedict Vineyard, and it will be best over the next 2-3 years while it still offers a core of fruit.

Dark red and black cherries, menthol, smoke, licorice and dried rose petals take shape in the 2012 Pinot Noir Bien Nacido Vineyard. This is another mid-weight wine with only modest depth, persistence and concentration.
