The 2018 Meursault Les Perrières 1er Cru is much more subtle on the nose than its peers. It gradually opens with subtle crushed stone, yellow flower, Clementine and jasmine scents that seem very precise. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. Certainly this is one of the most saline and tensile Perrières, mineral-driven on its quite penetrating finish. There were suggestions of TCA in this bottle, though personally, I could not pick that up. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting.

The 2018 Meursault 1er Cru Perrières dominates the range even more self-evidently than its 2019 counterpart, unwinding in the glass with notions of citrus oil, smoke, crushed rocks, white flowers, Anjou pear and wet stones. Medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, its satiny attack segues into a tightly wound, nicely concentrated mid-palate that gives way to a long, penetrating and chalky finish. Roulot has decided to late-release the 2018 Perrières after a few years, so it isn't yet on the market.

Tank sample. Dusty, stony mineral and a touch smoky struck match. Spicy and cedary on the nose. Then an intense precision and finesse on the palate, not rich or deep but intense and sharply focused, with great length. Mouth-watering and taut, really held in on the mid palate. Steely rather than fruity. Very very long and tightly coiled but not so much that it wards you off. Opens in the glass to more a stony character and then and back full circle. Fabulous wine. (JH)
