The 2017 Millery embodies the essence of finesse and elegance in Saint-Émilion. A wine of notable precision, Millery is silky, perfumed and exquisitely beautiful, with lovely energy and tension underpinning the fruit. Hints of spice, blood orange, mint, lavender and dried flowers are laced into the finish. Once again, Millery is one of the real gems of the vintage.

The 2017 de Millery comes from the Figeac stable on clayey soils near Troplong Mondot. This 2017 has a tightly wound blackcurrant, wild strawberry and cassis scented bouquet that is well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, rounded and generous in the mouth if just missing a little complexity on the white pepper and clove-tinged finish. This is one of the best wines that I have tasted from de Millery.

A brilliant effort, the 2017 Chateau De Millery comes from the Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes region of Saint-Emilion (which is a colder portion of the appellation) and an estate owned by Thierry Manocourt, who also owns Chateau Figeac. Made by the Figeac team and based on 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc aged in 80% new French oak, it offers a wonderful bouquet of creme de cassis, spring flowers, violets, and subtle background oak and graphite. Medium-bodied, seamless, and beautifully balanced, I suspect it’s a great value, and it should evolve gracefully for 10-15 years. The up-and-coming enologist Thomas Duclos also consults here.
