Tasting notes
The 2016 Barolo Riserva Lazzarito is a powerful, brooding wine. Huge swaths of searing tannin wrap around a core of dark fruit. The 2016 is at once intense and yet also awkwardly vegetal. I am not sure what the thinking is around this Riserva, but the style feels way too pushed to me.

This is a special wine packaged with a distinctive black label. The Ettore Germano 2016 Barolo Riserva Lazzarito is a true beauty with lovely fruit, dried cherry, plum, toasted spice, black tar and pressed rose. The wine is just beginning to show some elegant evolution with licorice and campfire ash, and you feel extra smoothness on the finish.
Serralunga d'Alba. Lustrous mid ruby with orange tinges. The classic spice and concentrated slumbering cherry and dried fruit hints I associate with Lazzarito. Black-pepper tingle. Supple and generous on the palate yet contained and with fine long tannins on the finish. Very long focused supple fruit with the perfect dose of gripping but fine tannins. Already irresistible. (WS)
