From an iron-rich site just north of the Oakville Crossroad, the 2019 St. Eden boasts effusive aromas of ripe cherries and briary raspberries framed by subtle cedar shadings. Full-bodied, silky, plush and long, this is a terrific all-around effort that deserves a few years in the cellar and should drink well for at least two decades thereafter.

In the same ballpark qualitatively, the 2019 St. Eden comes from a cooler site and volcanic soils. It has a darker, medium to full-bodied, incredibly complex profile that offers abundant cassis-like fruit, notes of graphite, flowers, violets, and tobacco, integrated acidity, polished tannins, and a great, great finish. It’s another singular, incredibly balanced, complete wine from this team. Hide bottles for 4-6 years and enjoy over the following three decades.

The 2019 St. Eden is another wine the shows a move towards greater focus and energy in these wines. There's plenty of the classic St. Eden opulence, but also a good deal of tension. The 2019 has shut down mightily post-bottling, which is likely a very good sign for its long-term prospects. In fact, the St. Eden is one of the most reticent of the Bond 2019s, something that was rarely, if ever, the case previously. Dark fruit, gravel, mocha and dried herbs build into the long, substantial finish.

The 2019 St. Eden is a dense, powerful wine that shows all the volume that is so typical of this site. Dark-toned fruit, chocolate, new leather, spice and menthol build in a plush, resonant Cabernet that will drink well with minimal cellaring.
