Tasting notes
From a clay-rich, south-southwest-facing site overlooking Lake Hennessey, the 2019 Melbury boasts a decadent, almost Pomerol-like nose of ripe black cherries. It just oozes lushness from every pore, being full-bodied, rich and supple in the mouth, with a long, plush finish and graceful notes of pine and red cherries.

Starting off the single vineyards, the 2019 Melbury comes from clay soils located north of Lake Hennessey. Redcurrants, cassis, chalky minerality, lead pencil, and camphor notes all emerge on the nose, and it’s medium to full-bodied, has silky, polished tannins, and an incredible finish. This is always one of the more seamless, elegant wines in the lineup. It will evolve for three decades.
The 2019 is a stunning Melbury. Bright and focused, with great depth, the 2019 dazzles right out of the gate. All the signatures of this site are front and center. I especially like the breadth and volume of the 2019. Even with all of that richness, the 2019 is wonderfully vibrant. It's an exquisite wine. The more time passes, and the more I get to know the Bond wines, the more I am starting to think Melbury belongs at top of the hierarchy. The 2019 is superb.
The 2019 Melbury is a super-classic wine off this site that emphasizes aromatic brightness, focus and nuance, all in the mid-weight style that is so typical of Melbury. This is such a promising wine.
