Ripe apple juice with a hint of caramel on the nose. Then extremely and surprisingly light bodied. Really rather miraculous. Still a bit chewy but shold give enormous aperitif pleasure. (JR)

Still quite restrained on the nose, but gentle citrus fruit notes and an intriguing smoky fragrance do not allow the herbaceous aromas of spontaneous fermentation to have it all their own way. Haag’s Juffer Spätlese never just relies on the easy-virtue flattery of residual sugar, but uses the power of sound acidity and zesty bitter peel notes to make its claim for the Spätlese throne. An idiosyncratic minerality makes a convincing plea in the support of terroir. (MS)
