I am lucky enough to have a few bottles of this at home, and it is absolutely a wine that I recommend. Savoury in the best way of Tuscan wines, with underbrush and sage spices. Hard to beat the pairing with tagliatelle, butter and shaved white truffle, picking up the fragrant character of this Sangiovese. It's exactly what I love about Concerto - turmeric, campfire, tobacco leaf alongside ripe autumnal fruits, studded with orange peel and lemongrass, and a mouthwatering finish. 70% new oak for ageing, followed by three months in concrete vats before bottling. Francesco Mazzei co-owner and estate director, Gionata Puglignani winemaker. Ageing in small French oak barrels for the Cabernet Sauvignon, larger sized for the Sangiovese.

The Mazzei 2021 Concerto di Fonterutoli shows a lifted bouquet with floral aromas of lavender, iris and delicate earthy tones at the back. There is plenty of primary fruit over well-integrated oak and soft tannins. Rainfall was happily abundant in this vintage, and the harvest was extremely rewarding, resulting in very healthy grapes. Analytical results underline fruit concentration, high polyphenolic values and a good sugar to acidity ratio.

The 2021 Concerto di Fonterutoli, Mazzei's Sangiovese/Cabernet Sauvignon blend, is plush and resonant to the core. Punchy, red-toned fruit, blood orange, cedar and spice all come together effortlessly, with plush, silky tannins that wrap it all together. Today the Sangiovese is super-expressive.

A delicious, measured and carefully structured wine, builds slowly through the palate, has typicity of Tuscan Sangiovese in its generosity, held in where it needs to be, and bursting with juicy red fruits, dark spices, turmeric, clove, tobacco, tar. Savoury and yet generous, with mouthwatering juiciness on the finish. Located in Castellina in Chianti, winemaker Gionata Puglignani, owned by the Mazzei family. Ageing in small French oak barrels for the Cabernet Sauvignon, larger sized for the Sangiovese, 70% new, plus three months in concrete tanks before release. Second tasting after a recent vertical, absolutely confirms its success.
