The 2014 Campo di Tenaglia is a bit richer and deeper than the Magnacosta, but, here, too, the personality of the vintage marks the wine to a significant degree. Succulent dark cherry, raspberry, cedar, licorice and grilled herbs all add character to this pretty, mid-weight Franc. A closing aromatic flourish rounds things out nicely. The Campo di Tenaglia is understated, and yet quite attractive at the same time.

100% Cabernet Franc. Harvested 13 October. Magnum. Very bright crimson. Sweet start. More of a hark back to the Palazzis on the front palate. Then very dry tannic grip on the end. Elderberries. Dry and quite demanding. Long. Lots of acidity. Bone dry! (JR)

Dark crimson. Intense, quite meaty nose (like the 2015, it reminds me rather of top-quality Merlot). Very chewy tannins but lovely velvety fruit in the middle. Lots of polish in the middle. Dry savoury finish. The fruit is better equipped to cover the tannins than in the Magnacosta. Probably the most successful of these 2014 Campi Cabernet Francs. (JR)

The 2014 Campo di Tenaglia is born in a one-hectare vineyard with sandy limestone soils. This is a very expressive Cabernet Franc that stands apart from the other two wines in this series. The wine's strong suit regards the purity and the intensity of the bouquet. Seamless aromas of dark fruit, red rose, spice, tobacco and grilled herb lift from the glass. The aromatic profile is finely etched and very pronounced. In the mouth, Campo di Tenaglia shows firm tannins and generous concentration despite a more linear and streamlined overall approach. This wine promises a long cellar evolution ahead.
