The 2017 Bourgogne Pinot Noir, which comes from vineyards just across the RN74 road in Volnay, offers pretty Morello cherries and crushed strawberry on the nose. The palate is well balanced with sappy red berry fruit, a fine bead of acidity, just a little short towards the finish but otherwise this does the job nicely. Although, I might just have a soft spot for the Passetoutgrain this year!

The 2017 Bourgogne Pinot Noir bursts from the glass with a fruit-driven bouquet of cherries, raspberries and cassis. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, tangy and melting. It should drink well out of the gates.
Barrel sample of final blend. Located between the RN74 and Volnay vineyards – an especially good strip for Bourgogne, says Frédéric Lafarge. Tends to open up before the Volnay. Lovely bitter-cherry nose but less sweet than the Passetoutgrains. Just a little savoury note to tell you where you are (ie in Burgundy). Succulent and juicy but firm in depth of fruit. Perfect balance. Finest tannins but they give a foundation for the fruit. Really superior Bourgogne. Long. (JH)
