Tasting Notes
From the 2020 vintage, Isabel Ferrando has bottled her wines under the Famille Isabel Ferrando name, and totally changed the range previously labelled as Domaine Saint-Préfert. Instead of an extensive range of single-vineyard bottlings, she has combined most of her fruit in this new flagship cuvée. The 2021 Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a blend of 87% Grenache, 12% Mourvèdre, 12% Cinsault and 11% Syrah, grown across Isabel Ferrando’s top terroirs (galet stones, gravel, fine blue clay and sand). The resulting wine has wonderful structural depth. The tannins are refined but have lovely textural substance and a mineral bitterness, without ever overpowering the plush red fruit and liquorice spice. Even at such a young age, this already tastes so balanced, pure and refined. Outstanding.

The flagship cuvée is the classic 2021 Châteauneuf Du Pape, which has replaced the Collection Charles Giraud and Reserve Auguste Favier special cuvées. Its deeper plum/purple hue gives way to a great bouquet of darker berry fruits, ground pepper, garrigue, and sappy flowers. Fleshy, medium to full-bodied, and wonderfully textured, it brings more fruit and opulence than most in the vintage, while still showing brilliant purity and freshness.
