Tasting notes
The 2019 Moric Reserve exhibits a dark and intense but brilliant and radiant cherry color and a corresponding nose with ripe dark cherry and delicate yeasty notes intermingled with still slightly reductive tones of raw, dark meat and crushed rocks but also pure fruit aromas of ripe black and red berries (black berries, redcurrant, cherries, dog rose) as well as fermented tea leaves, black chocolate and dark espresso beans. Silky, round and smooth on the palate, this is a medium to full-bodied, very refined and elegant, almost smooth Blaufränkisch from Lutzmannsburg that develops an intense, tart and concentrated yet also juicy finish with dark cherry aromas, very fine tannins and more texture and flesh than the generic Burgenland Blaufränkisch. 13.5% stated alcohol. Diam cork. Tasted in April 2023.

Old-vine intensity, concentration and depth. Mint, eucalyptus, tobacco, more red fruit than black with a delicate floral character and evergreen suggestions. Elegant, taut and complex; more rigidly structured than the entry-level Blaufränkisch, and the mid palate remains a bit closed in comparison. But what it lacks in animation at this point is gained in tension, suggesting that patience will most definitely be rewarded. A beautiful wine from a fascinating vintage. (PS)
