Wonderful, mature nose of yellow peach and candied pineapple with a hint of marzipan. Full-bodied and expansive palate with a rich, creamy texture. Then chalky minerality builds at the long, silky finish. Now full developed, but should keep well. Drink or hold. At the Keller G-Max vertical tasting.

Keller's intensely yellow colored 2005 Riesling G-Max opened the tasting at Steinheuer's Restaurant Zur Alten Post in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler in January 2024. The wine opens with ripe and juicy fruit on the rich nose that also reveals fine spices. Elegant and juicy on the palate, this is a dense and rich yet also fine dry Riesling with tropical fruit and an enormously aromatic but also salty finish. This G-Max, only the fifth ever, shows great length and is an impressive, still very fruity and mouth-filling Riesling with almost infinite potential. A wine for hedonists. Tasted blind.

Tasted blind. It can never be easy to be the first wine in a tasting associated with such high expectations and the 2005 (as it turned out to be) was a little more reticent on the nose than one might generally have expected from a G-Max. But a subtle fragrance can often be more seductive than an overwhelming perfume, and with a little more application it was possible to discern aromas of baked apple, candied orange and a hint of petrol in the best possible taste. On the palate the wine was totally clean and still exhibited an animating acidity, well supported by gentle notes of varied fruit. Well balanced, elegant and with a subtle herbal finish the G-Max 2005 has probably reached its peak. (MS)

Pale yellow. As always, expansive aromas of musky peach, lemon oil, pine nuts and lichee.Although the dense, explosive fruit is well-packed, the wine comes across as a bit heavy-handed. The finish is deep and persistently long.Keller generally puts what he considers his best juice into this wine, but, though very good, it is not the most impressive of his dry rieslings in this vintage.
