From the Contrada Guardiola. Cask sample. Fragrant and light red fruit with rather firm tannins. Seems pretty much ready now, but still in cask for the foreseeable future. (WS)

The 2015 Rosso Contrada G is impossible to ignore as an expressive mix of licorice and plum sauce comes together with mentholated herbs and medicinal cherries on the nose. It's energetic and pure in style, with vividly ripe strawberry and wild berry tones complemented by a tinge of balsamic spices. The 2015 has a spicy twang and a chewy sensation. Like many 2015s on Etna, this shows more maturity than anticipated, yet it also has a balance that can't be denied.
