Tasting notes
(15.1% alcohol): Bright full ruby. Pure, scented nose offers black cherry, boysenberry, licorice and chocolatey oak lifted by a floral element. Concentrated, smooth and suave, with integrated acidity framing and intensifying the dark berry flavors. Best today on the slow-building, fresh, very long finish, which features mouthcoating tannins that are considerably more harmonious today than those of The Bard.

From the very cool Coombsville area in southern Napa Valley, the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Farella Vineyard is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Lots of burning ember, crushed rock and white chocolate notes as well as sweet black and red currant are present in this backward, tannic, and structured wine. The minerality is obvious, as are the tannins, so 4-5 years of bottle-age seems imperative. This wine could last for 20-25 years. These beautiful, lovingly made, hand-crafted wines are all bottled unfined and unfiltered. Tel. (707) 967-0226; fax (707) 967-0227
(100% cabernet sauvignon) Bright ruby-red. Highly aromatic nose combines black fruits, licorice and sexy oak tones; reminded me of Bordeaux A penetrating, bright midweight with lovely incipient complexity to its blackberry, licorice and violet flavors. There's a coolness here that gives the wine a light touch. Finishes with very good lift. Potentially finer than the 2007.
