Tasting notes
Bright medium ruby. Redcurrant, minerals and herbs on the intense nose, lifted by a floral element. Juicy, spicy and downright suave, with redcurrant and raspberry flavors complicated by tobacco leaf. Nothing overripe about this 2006. This really spreads out on the palate without leaving any impression of weight. Finishes with smooth tannins and excellent length.

The dense purple-hued 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard is fashioned from a gravelly site that was probably an old riverbed. A beautiful effort, it reveals notes of scorched rocks, blue and black fruits, lead pencil shavings, and sweet toasty oak along with dazzling purity, a full-bodied, multilayered mouthfeel, and a long, smooth finish. It has avoided the vintage’s hard, spiky tannins, and should provide plenty of pleasure over the next 15+ years. Production for these cuvees ranges from a low of 160 cases to a high of 400 cases. Dark ruby-red. Candied blackberry and herbs on the nuanced nose. Highly complex on the palate, melding sweet, silky flavors of black raspberry, mocha, smoke and nuts. A dense and sexy wine that finishes with intriguing mineral, tar and earth qualities. I find this highly concentrated wine to be thicker and more complex than the excellent 2005.
