Tasting notes
The 2018 Barolo Acclivi is savory in character with crushed stone, dark herb and blackcurrant. This wine represents a blend of fruit from Verduno, including old vines in Monvigliero, Neirane, Bocato and Rocche dell’Olmo. There is a special softness and silkiness to the Acclivi that we see in this vintage just as we have seen it in past editions.

The 2018 Barolo Acclivi is a Verduno blend from Monvigliero, Neirane and Rocche Olmo. Creamy and layered in the glass, with terrific persistence and fine balance, the Acclivi is an absolute delight in 2018. Red/purplish berry fruit, rose petal, spice, lavender and macerated cherry build nicely over time. The Acclivi is sometimes overlooked in this range, which is a shame as it is a terrific wine.
Verduno. Just mid ruby. Perfumed and minerally, concentrated and yet contained and fine. Pure raspberry on the nose. Gorgeous sappy raspberry fruit, lively and long but closes up on the finish, so more is to come. Gripping but satin-like tannins.
Very pale crimson. Nicely balanced with all the components in the right place on the nose. This really is quite tarry (conforming to stereotype) on the nose. Lovely spread of floral notes and gentle fruit on the palate. Juicy too. None of the excessive dryness that dogs some of the 2018 Barolos. Perfect even at this early stage. Real vibrancy on the finish. Long.
