Tasting notes
Mondavi's Merlot seems to be getting better and better, not surprising in view of the extraordinary efforts this winery makes to increase the quality of its offerings. The dark ruby-colored 1995 Merlot Napa offers up a dense, black cherry, fruit-driven nose. In the mouth, it is medium to full-bodied, somewhat foursquare, but fleshy with good acidity, followed by an attractively long finish. Tel. (707) 259-9463 and (800) MONDAVI; Fax (707) 963-1007.

Good medium red. Initially dominated by mint and herbs on the nose but opened quickly to show cherry and currant fruit elements. Leanish but fairly intense black cherry, mint and shoe polish flavors. Has a firm backbone for further development in bottle. But ultimately a moderately ripe wine that a bit short on flesh. Finishes with slightly dry tannins.
