Inky ruby. Highly perfumed aromas of blackberry, cassis, black pepper and licorice. Broad, sweet and lush, with a strong spicy character to the juicy blackberry and spicecake flavors. As deep and fleshy as this is, it also delivers energetic cut. Very long on the finish, with silky, seamless tannins lending focus.

The least expensive effort is the opaque purple-colored 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa. A blockbuster, it offers up classic notes of charcoal, subtle smoke, black currants, black berries, lead pencil shavings, and earth. This deep, opulent, full-bodied Cabernet possesses terrific purity as well as length. It should drink well for 15+ years. This is a brilliant portfolio of Cabernet Sauvignons from Paul Hobbs, one of the wine world’s top consultants whose own California projects are augmented by his superb work in Argentina. About the producer
Paul Hobbs is one of California wine’s biggest names. Twice named Wine Personality of the Year by Robert Parker, he joined Robert Mondavi in 1977, worked at Opus One and Simi before setting up his eponymous winery in 1991.
