Tasting notes
Tasted blind at the Burgfest annual tasting, the 2014 Chablis Grand Cru Valmur from Collet has plenty of yellow fruit on the nose that is well defined, pretty rather than intellectual or sophisticated. The palate is well balanced with nectarine and grapefruit on the entry. There is a pleasant saline undertow guiding this Valmur, linear and correct, if not the most complex contribution from this vineyard.

Suppressed nose. Loads of layered, grainy texture on the palate. Serious and savoury – needs some years to emerge. (RH)
(from vines planted in 1971; made entirely in barriques ): Bright yellow. Ripe peach and nectarine scents are currently dominated by smoky oak. Plush and sweet in the mouth but with strong salinity and good cut giving shape to this very rich wine. Finishes saline and a touch warm. (Incidentally, Collet's Les Clos, made from vines farmed via a _fermage arrangement, was still finishing its malolactic fermentation and was too full of gas to assess.)
