Tasting notes
Dark, shimmering ruby. Blackberry and cherry aromas are complicated by suggestions of olive, licorice and pungent flowers. Chewy, appealingly sweet black and blue fruit flavors deepen and become spicier with air, while a peppery note adds lift and back-end cut. Fine-grained tannins add shape to a long, floral-accented finish that leaves a jammy dark berry note behind. This wine is insanely easy to drink and should have been bottled exclusively in magnums.

The 2020 Vin De Pays Le Vin Des Amis, which has just been bottled, offers some classic Clape character in a more up-front, mouth-filling, charming style. Blueberries, blackberries, peppered meat, and violets all define this utterly delicious Syrah geared for drinking over the coming 4-5 years.
Bottled just a few days before my visit to the domaine, the 2020 Vin de France Le Vin des Amis was boasting a beautifully aromatic nose, redolent of peppermint, violets and cherries. Medium-bodied, fresh and silky in texture, it's easy and fun to drink. It's all whole-bunch Syrah from a 1.5-hectare vineyard on the flats between the village of Cornas and the river. It is made and aged in concrete.
