Lastly, the 2020 Chambertin Grand Cru gives the Clos-de-Beze a run for its money, although it's tighter and more closed. Subtle reductive, mineral nuances as well as both red and black fruits, spice, and floral notes emerge on the nose, and it's a big, rich, powerful wine on the palate, with lots of everything. While it needs to be forgotten for 5-7 years, the potential here is obvious. My money is on this having well over two decades of longevity.

The 2020 Chambertin Grand Cru has another very oaky bouquet, the black fruit here laced with mocha and light tobacco scents. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, the oak more simpatico compared to the Clos-de-Bèze with a slight sorbet-like freshness towards the finish that demonstrates a degree of finesse, though does not excel in terms of transparency compared to others that I tasted.
