Tasting notes
The 2019 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru is perfumed and sensual, bursting with aromas of plums, Indian spices, sweet red berries, anise and orange rind. Full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, with a broad attack and a layered core of fruit, it's framed by melting tannins and succulent acids. This has turned out brilliantly.

The 2019 Griottes-Chambertin Grand Cru is the one cuvée that flirted with excessive ripeness on the nose, revealing figgy aromas filtering through the black fruit and just missing the delineation of the Fonteny. The palate is balanced, though, and velvety-smooth; here there is less sign of the overripeness. In fact, the finish shows impressive clarity and refinement. Hopefully time in bottle will address the sur-maturité , so cellar this for several years.
