Tasting notes
The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Les Perrières 1er Cru has a slightly muted nose at first, though it gently opens with grapefruit, Granny Smith, light granitic and smoke scents. This evolves well in the glass, cohering and gaining delineation. The palate is well-balanced with a slightly honeyed opening that prompts me to wonder if a smidgin of botrytised fruit was in the mix. Still, the acidity maintains tension and feels long on the richer finish. This will be difficult to resist in its youth. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Les Perrières 1er Cru has a harmonious nose with grilled hazelnut and light fumé aromas that unfurl in the glass, demonstrating a touch more complexity than the Champs Canet. The palate is very well balanced with an effervescent entry, orange pith and quince, gaining complexity towards the almost Chassagne-like finish. Excellent.
The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Perrières is excellent, mingling aromas of crisp orchard fruit with hints of white flowers, pastry cream and struck match in an inviting mélange, followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive palate. Taut and chalky, it's a charming but classically proportioned white Burgundy.
