Tasting notes
From a site in Soda Canyon, the 2019 Red Blend Hossfeld Coliseum is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. A bit lifted, herbal and cherry-tinged on the nose, it's nevertheless full-bodied on the palate. Taut and streamlined in profile, it finishes silky and long.

The 2019 Red Blend checks in as a blend of 40% each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec, with the balance Merlot, that spent 20 months in French oak. Its deep purple hue is followed by an up-front, exuberant red offering lots of candied red and black fruits, notes of violets, tobacco, and flowery incense, medium to full body, ripe tannins, and a great finish. Drink this solid, impeccably made blend over the coming decade or more. 172 cases.
The 2019 Red Blend Hossfeld Coliseum is plump, juicy and wonderfully inviting. Dark cherry plum, mocha, spice and new leather are all kicked up in this succulent, flavorful Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon blend from Mark Carter. Soft, silky tannins add to its considerable appeal. Give the 2019 a year or two to soften.
Lots of red and black fruits, chocolate, tobacco, cedar pencil, and loamy earth-like notes emerge from the 2019 Hossfeld Coliseum Red Blend, a Merlot-dominated, ripe, sexy 2019 with full-bodied richness, a round, mouth-filling texture, and a great finish. It has plenty of structure yet still has the vintage’s ripe, approachable, irresistible style. It should drink well for 15-20 years.
