Tasting notes
This comes from two of the coolest plots on Paul Hobbs’ Goldrock Estate, at the northern reaches of the Sonoma Coast. Given the cool locale, these plots are picked late – 25th to 28th September in 2019. The aromas speak of that long growing season, with softer apricot aromas alongside the taut citrus. The wine is more dominated by spice, toast and minerality, the palate round and creamy, yet with a chalky mineral edge that drives the long finish. 45% new oak for 15 months.

The 2019 Chardonnay Cuvée Louisa Goldrock Estate features lush guava and candied peaches on the nose, with accents of pastry, honey and sweet spice. The palate is slow to unfold, driven by bright acidity and flinty character at this youthful stage. It finishes with delicate layers that suggest it has more to offer as it unfolds in bottle.
The 2019 Chardonnay Goldrock Estate Cuvée Louisa is a powerful, phenolic wine with tons of mineral and savory character. Lemon confit, sage, mint, white flowers and crushed rocks fill out the layers. This dense, concentrated Chardonnay packs a serious punch. In a word: impressive.
