Tasting notes
The 2019 Sufreiral comes from one of the few plots on limestone soils in Bierzo. In this 2019 vintage, it carries the new Vino de Paraje official category from the Bierzo appellation of origin, and it will probably be a Vino de Viña Clasificada, the single-vineyard category that requires traceability and a track record of at least five years. This is from the other side of the Pico Ferreira slope and was made with 25% full clusters and a long maceration in a single 600-liter oak barrel, where the wine matured for 10 months. It has a slightly riper nose than the 2020 I tasted next to it, but it's a small difference. The wine kept 12.75% alcohol and is medium-bodied with very fine, chalky tannins. 700 bottles were filled in December 2020.
