Score 93/100 · Drink 2023-2035, Anthony Mueller, Wine Advocate, Dec 2023

Starting dusty and red-fruited with layers of fresh mineral essence, the 2017 Main Road & Dignity displays elegant oak tones with dusty florals and wild herbs. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is simultaneously dusty and fresh with a beautifully round and expressive mouthfeel that continues to unfold, revealing layers of pencil lead and crème de cassis with spiced black plums. I ends with an elegant, fresh finish. Just under 8,000 bottles were produced of this fantastic, food-friendly Cabernet. Even after six to seven years, it's just starting to find its stride and will have no challenges going for distance. Nicely done!

The 2017 Main Road & Dignity is a little more expressive on the nose than the 2015, black fruit mixed with leather and pencil box, very Bordeaux-like style. The medium-bodied palate has fine-grain tannins and a little more energy and tension than the 2015, finely proportioned, focused and classically styled toward the finish. Refined, this comes highly recommended.

The 2017 Main Road & Dignity comes from 1.59 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon vines planted in 1999 on granite soils. The enticing bouquet features blackberry, raspberry and light menthol scents; a touch of garrigue (wild fennel and thyme) emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a cool, slightly herbaceous entry (mint and wild thyme again), beautiful balance and gentle grip. There is a savory, briny element to this Cabernet, and fine length on the finish. Excellent. 7,973 bottles produced.

Mid-crimson vivid, healthy colour. These 2017s seem pretty austere. I'd like a little more fruit in this please. Drying, slightly tart finish. (JR)
