Score 92/100 · Drink 2023-2028, Eric Guido, Vinous, Nov 2021
The 2017 Sangiovese Riserva Le Lucciole smolders up from the glass, smokey and intense with a darkly alluring blend of blackberries, wild herbs and crushed stone. With time, this gains in volume and richness yet remains firmly rooted to the earth. It’s much softer and delicate on the palate than anticipated with an almost-silty minerality. Cool-toned dark red and black fruits wash across the senses, leaving a salty tinge of acid and minerals. Violet florals and hints of licorice resonate throughout the long and youthfully austere finale, where fine tannins tug at the cheeks even as the mouth waters for more. While structured, the 2017 should only require a short stay in the cellar before showing its best.
