Tasting notes
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Helms Vineyard turned out beautifully. Silky, aromatic and light on its feet, the Helms is pure class. Bright red-fleshed fruit, blood orange, cinnamon, rose petal and mint all grace this wonderfully sophisticated Cabernet from Dana. As always, the Helms is super-elegant and restrained in feel.

From a site around the estate in Rutherford, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Helms Vineyard is one of the age-worthy, incredibly elegant Cabernets from Napa Valley that could easily be mistaken for a First Growth Pauillac. Revealing a deeper ruby/plum color as well as a great nose of blackcurrants, smoked tobacco, cedarwood, and savory herbs, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a layered, elegant texture, integrated tannins, and a great finish.
Sweet white chocolate with currant, plum and subtle hazelnut on the nose. Some other spices, such as nutmeg and cloves. Floral. Full-bodied with extremely fine tannins that go on and on. Beautiful center plate that is dense yet polished and fine and continues on. Exceptional. Fantastic finish. Drinkable now, but needs four or five years to show it’s true greatness.
