A blend of mostly Sangiovese with Cabernet Franc and Merlot, the 2016 Haiku reveals a deep sense of inner power and strength. The wine opens to a dark appearance and immediately pleasing aromas of blackberry, plum, spice, tilled earth and tobacco. What I like most about this vintage is just how open and generous the bouquet is even at this young stage. You get some softly toned fruit, but you also get freshness at the back so everything balances itself out in the end.

The 2016 Haiku, Ama's Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Franc blend, is fabulous. Rich, ample and expressive, Haiku captures all of the pedigree of this benchmark vintage at Ama. Dark, sensual and inviting, but with plenty of structure, the 2016 Haiku has a very bright future. Today, the 2016 is all about fruit intensity and structure, so readers need to be patient, as the aromatics will only develop with years of bottle age.
A linear and fine-textured red with raspberry and black-tea character. Full-bodied, yet tight and compact with lovely strength and polish. Pretty length, too. Drink or hold.

Castello di Ama is one of the pre-eminent estates in Chianti Classico. Situated in the southern-most district of the appellation, the estate has only been making wine since the late 1970s but has since built a reputation as one of the region’s best.
