The 2019 Stromberg GG is precise and pure on the stony nose that reveals darker-toned flinty as well as orange and lemon rind aromas. On the palate, this is a bright, rich and juicy, very intense and sustainable yet elegant, coolish and finessed Riesling from dark porphyry soils. It's one of the top Rieslings of the vintage in the Nahe region, if not in all of Germany. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in July 2022.

TA 5.8 g/l, RS 8.5 g/l. Very pale lemon, with marked spritz. Delicate elderflower and watermelon notes are then dominated by something leathery and maybe even horsey (though I doubt brett would be living in the acidity of a German Riesling!). On swirling and standing, this does change a little to perhaps more smoky/stony, but it remains quite off-putting. The palate has good density and appley acidity that carries well, but that flavour again barges in on the mid palate. It's a pity, because there are lots of ingredients in this that suggest a very good wine indeed. I just can't quite 'get' that curious note. Not easy to score, so take the number with the caution of the note as well! (TJ)

AP number 21 20. Green-fruit flavours on the nose. Then concentrated fruit on the palate with some astringency. Very juicy and friendly but still pretty youthful. Long, vibrato. (JR)

Complex, grapefruit-zest, wild-herb and smoky notes. A wild one with enormous expression and energy that leaps and bounds over the palate. Maybe the acidity at the super crisp finish will be too much for some, but we love that acute, precise brightness, as it balances neatly the little hint of sweetness. Drink or hold.
