Tasting notes
A cool, pure and pretty nose is compositionally similar to that of the Frémiets with perhaps a bit more spice influence. The delicious, succulent and slightly more concentrated flavors flash good detail as well as solid length on the dusty, balanced and more complex finale.

Richer and more muscular than the Frémiets, the 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Les Champans evokes notions of cherries, sweet berries, orange rind and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, it's deep and concentrated, concluding with a long finish. This is the domaine's largest premier cru holding, planted in 1934, 1971 and 1985.
The 2019 Volnay Les Champans 1er Cru, matured in 20% new oak, has darker fruit than the Fremiets, touches of blackberry and briary complementing the raspberry and cranberry. The oak here is neatly enmeshed. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, silkier than the Fremiets in texture with a piquant finish. Delightful and so fresh!
