Drink 2020-2030, Vinfolio, May 2021

The Croix Canon has a lovely balance between primary red and blackberry fruit with more maturing light leathery notes and touch of fresh soil. It is silky, soft, with seamless tannins off-set by a bountiful freshness. There is excellent clarity of blackberry and black plum on the palate, pristine in character and of impressive purity. This is a really juicy, medium-bodied, elegant-styled Saint-Emilion, very in keeping with the Ch. Canon style. There is additional fresh liquorice and sweeter blackberry pastille notes on the finish, nicely contrasted with the overriding freshness. This is very enjoyable now, with a nice energy to the palate, warming, whilst remaining elegant.

Shaded garnet. Smells very accomplished and sophisticated. Really very nicely assembled with both ripeness and freshness, and a dry finish. No alcoholic heat. Savoury and appetising. Long. Why pay for the grand vin if you want to drink the wine soon? Nicolas Audebert kindly gives us really superior second wines! GV (JR)

One of my (relative) value buys of the year on this showing. Bright, vivacious, creamy fruits that expand through the mid palate, great freshness and acidity that speak of the location just on the edge of the limestone plateau. A brilliant 2nd wine. 25% new oak.

A juicy richness to the fruit with dark-berry and sliced-mushroom character on the nose and palate. Full body, chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Very structured. Try from 2023
