2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Georges III

Tasting notes
The Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Vineyard Georges III is a powerful, brooding wine. Firm tannins only add to that impression. There is good depth in the glass, along with plenty of the earthy, chocolate and soil-driven inflections typical of Georges III Cabernets, but I don't see the finesse or nuance of the best wines in this lineup.

Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and sporting a deep purple-black color, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard charges out of the gate with bright, bold scents of black raspberries, fresh blackcurrants and ripe blackberries with nuances of violets, cedar chest, sandalwood and menthol plus a touch of beef drippings. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is laden with bright, lively black fruit, framed by fine-grained tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and earthy.
There are roughly 300 cases of the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard, a gorgeous, layered, complete wine. Loaded with ripe, spice-laced black fruits, smoked tobacco, damp earth, and chocolate, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a seamless, elegant texture, ultra-fine tannins, and a great finish. This is as classy as it gets.
The Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Vineyard Georges III is terrific in 2018. Energetic and wonderfully nuanced, the Georges III melds together the richness of this site with the vibrancy of the year, a super-appealing combination in my book. Earthy and savory undertones add character to this expressive Rutherford Cabernet.
