2016 Ampio delle Mortelle

Tasting notes
The 2016 Ampio delle Mortelle needs time to shed some of its considerable power. Red cherry, plum, licorice and dried herbs gradually emerge from behind a wall of tannin. Readers need to be patient. I won't be surprised if the 2016 is even better with some time in bottle.

The 2016 Ampio delle Mortelle is Carmenère with smaller parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The wine delivers tangy and almost raw berry aromas with plenty of dark spice, tar and leather along the way. It is packed tight with savory black fruit at its core, with soft tannins and thick concentration at the back.
