Score 94/100 · Drink 2023-2035, Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, Jun 2021
From a single vineyard planted in 1960, Torbreck's 2018 The Gask matured in used barrels. It still shows some smoky nuances on the nose, joined by hints of bay leaf, juniper, blueberries and camphor. Medium to full-bodied, it's more structured than most of the winery's other offerings, with firm, dusty (but ripe) tannins. Slightly higher acids provide a more streamlined shape on the palate, and it has a lingering, savory finish.
