Score 89/100 · Drink 2021-2028, Anthony Mueller, Wine Advocate, May 2021
Opening with a soft smoky essence, the 2016 Nebbiolo displays aromas of dusty cherry skin, leather and turned earth. Medium-bodied, the wine offers up to ripe and juicy red fruit tones before displaying dusty herbal essences, sour cherry skin, dried hay and sautéed nuts. Growing tannins grip the gumline, but they offer a balanced structure. The wine finishes with lingering earth tones that round out the experience. 5,400 bottles were filled after spending 19 months in 20% new French oak barrels. It’s a fun wine to try and won’t convert any diehard Barolo fans, but it does deliver well for the price.
