57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 16% Petit Verdot. 46.2 hl/ha. Harvested 24 September to 11 October. Deep crimson to the rim. Bright and fresh on the nose. Dark fruit with a minty note but still relatively closed. Hints at complexity. Smooth, suave texture, the tannins very fine. More freshness than 2018. Firm, long finish. Balanced. Promises well for the long term. (JL)

The 2019 Meyney has a divine bouquet, so pure and winsome with floral red berry scents, beautifully integrated new oak and superb precision. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fleshy to the point where you can almost overlook the backbone of this Saint-Estèphe. It could have been blowsy, yet it retains superb balance and feels luxuriant and long on the finish. This is a stellar showing easily eclipsing its performances either in barrel or just after bottling. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.

Tasted blind. Lifted, perfumed. Subtle, with a savoury streak running through it. Far from massive but nicely judged and appetising. Cool and sophisticated. GV (JR)

Cassis, currants, ripe tobacco, and cedar pencil notes define the bouquet of the 2019 Château Meyney, a medium to full-bodied, concentrated Saint-Estèphe that shows the elegant, moderately concentrated, yet nicely structured and balanced style of the vintage. It's already accessible with a decant but will benefit from just a handful of years in the cellar and have 15 years or more of longevity.
