The 2019 Le Dragon de Quintus has an attractive nose with a fair amount of new oak, creamier in style, but there is substance behind it. The palate is flattering with plush black fruit, lightly spiced, fine depth and cohesion with a dash of black pepper towards the persistent finish. Lovely. You could almost broach this now. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.

Tasted blind. Bright crimson. A rather buttery nose. Sweet and smooth with some blackberry fruit. Not complex but the balance is fine and there is decent length. (JR)
Rich and sweet with an edge of acidity. Not that harmonious but quite dramatic. Grainy finish. Easy to appreciate. (JR)
Always a charming, impeccably made second wine, the 2019 Le Dragon De Quintus offers lots of mulled redcurrants and black cherry-like fruits as well as exotic baking spices (cumin), tobacco, and spring flower notes. It's soft, charming, medium-bodied, and already delicious.
About the producer
Ch. Quintus is the flagship Saint-Emilion estate of Domaine Clarence Dillon (owners of Ch. Haut-Brion and Ch. la Mission Haut-Brion). Following the purchase of Ch. Tertre Daugay in 2011 and Ch. l’Arrosée in 2013, the two were merged to form Ch. Quintus. The first vintage of the wine was 2011.
