Score 92/100 · Drink 2022-2035, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Jul 2020

This is the top-shelf wine from Giacomo Fenocchio. The 2013 Barolo Riserva Bussia 90 dì delivers a sultry and rich bouquet. Aromas of dark fruit and dried cherry are folded into spice, tobacco and tarry earth. Like the other expressions from this producer, this Barolo veers toward black fruit (as opposed to red fruit energy) with a concentrated and heavy impression on the palate. The wine is almost ready to drink out of the gate, or you could age it longer.

The 2013 Barolo Riserva Bussia 90 Dì is powerful and rough around the edges. Huge tannins and dried out fruit give the Riserva its burly foursquare feel. Iron, smoke, cedar, tobacco and licorice emerge over time, but there is no getting past the wine's rustic feel.

This shows some dried-cherry, leather and earthy aromas, as well as a swathe of dried, woody spices and herbs. The palate is quite elegant, refined and mellow, delivering restrained dried cherries in fine, approachable tannins. Drink or hold.
