The 2017 Perlato del Bosco (100% Sangiovese) is bright, punchy and easy to like. In 2017, the warm, dry growing season baked out some of the Sangiovese – always a challenge in Suvereto – and yet, the Perlato retains a good bit of freshness and aromatic lift. I would prefer to drink the 2017 sooner rather than later, while the red Sangiovese fruit remains bright.

A silky, polished red with berries, chocolate, hazelnuts and a hint of dry earth on the nose. Medium to full body, firm, silky tannins and a fresh, bright finish. Needs time to come together. Better after 2020.
A lean and light Sangiovese, the 2017 Perlato del Bosco has a great tonic freshness to it. Yields of this fruit were down by 40% in this hot vintage, an early harvest was scheduled in order to avoid any jammy notes. (The rest of the fruit that didn't pass the early selection at harvest went into some of the estates lower-tier wines, such as the Rosso dei Notri.) The result here is a fresh and crunchy red to match with a cheesy pasta such as cacio e pepe.
