Score 90/100 · Drink 2017-2027, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Nov 2015
The 2012 GVB Red has a backward, rather sultry nose at first that demands encouragement from the glass, touches of mint and rosemary suffusing the brambly red fruit, a dash of soy later on. The palate is medium-bodied, austere and masculine and underpinned by firm tannin, quite dry towards the finish but with sufficient fruit to suggest that it will repay 3-4 years in bottle. This is another Claret-inspired red blend from Vergelegen.
